Welcome

A powerful musical experience rooted in African traditions, contemporary jazz influences, global rhythm, and creative collaboration.

Biography

Bassist and composer Cheikh N'Doye has been described as a “Young Lion” for the bold musical path he embarked upon early in his career. A multi-instrumentalist and GRAMMY-nominated artist, N'Doye revealed the depth of his artistry with his debut recording A Child's Tale, featuring major American jazz figures such as Randy Brecker, Russell Ferrante, and Dave Weckl.

The album highlighted Cheikh's distinctive voice, rooted in African traditions and enriched by African American musical influences. On his most recent recordings, N'Doye confirms the maturity of his musical vision, demonstrating mastery across a wide spectrum of styles. His music travels from the northern Gnawa rhythms of Africa to American jazz-fusion, infused with vibrant Latin elements, performed alongside GRAMMY-winning Cuban-American drummer and percussionist Raul Pineda.

Cheikh N'Doye's collaborations include legendary jazz guitarist Mike Stern and pianist Arshak Sirunyan. His recent projects have also seen him share the stage with internationally acclaimed artists such as keyboardist Leszek Możdżer, percussion legend Mino Cinelu, drummers Terri Lyne Carrington and Sonny Emory, saxophonist Tia Fuller, and vocal icons Oleta Adams, Phil Perry, and Regina Belle.

Through the Cheikh N'Doye & Friends concept, N'Doye expands creative possibilities and onstage dynamism by bringing together an extraordinary range of musical voices. These include guitarist Kazumi Watanabe, Dean Brown (Marcus Miller Band), singer Baaba Maal, Faada Freddy (Daara J), pianist Lao Tizer, violinist Karen Briggs (Yanni), guitarist Chieli Minucci (Special EFX), drummers Marcus Baylor and Raul Pineda, percussionists Eliel Lazo and Weedie Braimah, and pianists Arshak Sirunyan and Manami Morita.

Cheikh N'Doye & Friends has performed for audiences across Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America, delivering a powerful musical experience that bridges cultures and traditions.
